Workshops

Description Date Location
Advanced Genetic Epidemiology Workshop. This NIDA-funded workshop is designed to provide an overview of advanced statistical methodology for genetic studies of substance use and abuse phenotypes. It will cover analytical methods for twin and family studies, GxE interaction, assortative mating, sibling interaction, phenotyping including genetic factor scores, mixture distribution modeling and growth curve modeling, among other topics. It will use a hands-on approach, in which participants will use their own laptop computers to implement and experiment with statistical methods described during presentations by the faculty. Basic knowledge of R and OpenMx - especially attendance at an introductory OpenMx course such as the Boulder workshop 2010 or 2012, or IOP summer school 2011 is recommended. Registration is now open - follow this link. October 22nd - 26th, 2012 VIPBG, Virginia Commonwealth University
Richmond, VA
Introduction to Structural Modeling Using OpenMx. An invited workshop at the Association for Psychological Science will introduce the use of the OpenMx Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) package. The workshop will begin with a very brief introduction to the calculation of the covariances of linear combinations and the notions of path analysis. Next will be an introduction to specifying structural models in OpenMx. In contrast to traditional SEM modeling software, OpenMx uses a functional approach to model specification.
Next, we will specify and fit a wide variety of models that will include multiple and multivariate regression, confirmatory factor models, latent growth curves, mediation models, moderation models, and briefly touch on multigroup models.

2012 International Workshop on Statistical Genetics and Methodology of Twin and Family Studies . Five day workshop funded by NIMH and hosted by the Institute for Behavior Genetics at the University of Colorado. March 5-9, 2012 Boulder, CO
Summer School at King's College. This course will teach the basic principles of the classical twin model as well as the basic skills to analyze twin data by teaching delegates how to write simple scripts and how to interpret the output. The lectures and practicals will cover introduction to R and OpenMx; univariate and multivariate models applied to continuous raw data; univariate models applied to ordinal data (liability threshold models fitted to contingency tables); sex-limitation models. June 20-24 2011 King's College, London
Advanced Genetic Epidemiology and Statistical Molecular Genetics Workshop. This workshop is designed to provide an overview of advanced statistical methodology for genetic studies of substance use and abuse phenotypes. It covers analytical methods for twin and family studies, phenotyping, genome wide association, sequencing, pharmacogenomics, metabolomics and animal research. The focus is on a hands-on approach, in which participants use their own laptop computers to implement and experiment with statistical methods described during presentations by the faculty. Basic knowledge of R and OpenMx is recommended. Registration is now open. October 18th - 22th, 2010 VIPBG, Virginia Commonwealth University
Richmond, VA
11th MRC Social, Genetic and Developmental Psychiatry Centre Summer School. Twin Model Fitting: Introducing the New OpenMx. This course will teach the basic principles of the classical twin model as well as the basic skills to analyze twin data by teaching delegates how to write simple scripts and how to interpret the output. Knowledge of R and old Mx is not necessary. For more information: link.
